Road Run 2007

Annan - Brydekirk - Ecclefechan - Hoddom - Dalton - Carrutherstown - Cummertrees - Powfoot

15th April 2007.

The 2007 road run took place around the north and west side of Annan. There were 34 tractors took part and we were blessed with not only dry but quite warm and sunny weather.

The run started from Justinlees farm, just outside Annan. From here we headed, via a combination of the public roads and farm tracks, out towards, and through the village of Brydekirk. From Brydekirk we then headed toward Eaglesfield then Ecclefechan. Before reaching Ecclefechan we u-turned toward Hoddom Cross then zig-zagged our way to Hoddom Castle where stopped for lunch and were treated to pies, sausage rolls and drinks.

This was also the site for the tractors to be judged. The line up was scrutinised by Mrs Birkbeck where she weeded it down to 4 finalists and finally selected Iain Beatties Allis Chalmers for first place. Well done Iain.

We set off from the castle after lunch passing Repentance Tower and took a round about road toward Dalton then from there toward Carrutherstown. We passed under the underpass at Searigg (Iím sure his silage recovered okay) and along the back roads until we turned off for a bit of off roading and hill climbing. After a short rest to let everybody catch up and check their wheels were still securely fitted we set off again, passing Kinmount House and emerging at Cummertrees. From here we took the back road to Powfoot, trying not to put too many golfers off their game and headed onto the shore for a refreshment.

After a prickly journey to places such as Thorns, The Whins and Holy Bush a rest on the beach and a choc-ice is just what a busy tractor driver needs to unwind on a warm, sunny day.

Finally, on the home straight, there was one more stop at The Howes where a raffle took place. Altogether a sum of £723.00 was raised which was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

A DVD of the 2007 Road Run is now available. It costs £5.00, £3.00 of which goes to charity. Ask for details at the next meeting or send an e-mail to info@dumfriesandgallowayvintagemachineryclub.co.uk
